Three prison officials arrested in corruption case

TIRANA, July 13 – Police and the prosecutor’s office reported Tuesday that three officials of the prison of Rrogozhina in central Albania, including the prison head, have been arrested on corruption and abuse of post charges.
“The suspects, in cooperation with one another, have received money in recompense for illegal favors for prisoners,” the statement read.
The four-month investigation into the case has been carried out by the anti-corruption task-force in the Durres prosecutor’s office, adding that the charges were proven through wiretaps.
the three officials are accused of giving illegal time off for good behavior to prisoners after being bribed.
Another suspect, a local business owner who is allegedly a middleman, is currently at large.
