TIRANA, June 19 – A week ahead of the June 28 parliamentary elections it seems that there is a tight race between the two big political coalitions.
That is also shown in the many opinion polls conducted throughout the country this year.
A poll by Zogby International showed that the governing Democratic Party of Prime Minister Sali Berisha led the main opposition Socialist Party of Tirana Mayor Edi Rama by two points, but coalitions backing each of these two big parties had the same level of backing.
The same results were reported from the polling companies.
They all show clearly that the level of support for the two main political groupings does not differ much, or, better said, is close to identical. They have also shown that part of the opposition coalition, the Socialist Movement for Integration or the G99 party, may be one of the two other important players. They are followed by the Republican Party of the governing coalition and the right-wing National Development Movement.
Tight political race, polls say
