TIRANA, July 23 – The Tirana police department, the largest in the country, has held a meeting to review its achievements during the first half of this year.
Police in the capital said they had discovered 82 percent of local crimes while they were occurring, equalling 1623 out of 1970 crimes, or 82 percent.
Police have arrested 648 persons and investigated 1,266 others.
This year, however, had a higher crime rate, with 226 more crimes than the same period last year.
Police also noted they had arrested 241 wanted persons and 41 others were extradited from European countries.
Tirana police took special pride in their work during the visit of U.S. President George W. Bush in Albania on June 10.
Its future goals remained protecting citizens’ life, property, prevention of different crimes, penalizing the perpetrators and as well as maintaining special attention to road safety.
