TIRANA, Jan. 17 – Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj said this week the country’s bid to reduce pollution through the use of electric buses could become a reality within this year, during a conference on territorial cooperation.
With the first number of buses already ordered, Veliaj said the additional cooperation and contribution from Poland and exchange of experience among Polish and Albanian transportation employees with positively speed up the implementation process.
Moreover, Veliaj added Tirana is working on building an additional 100 km of bicycle lanes for the 4,000 new bikes the city will receive within a month.
“The entire network of bicycles that can be seen around Tirana is the fruit of a project funded by the Dutch Embassy in Tirana. We are not only completing the new lanes, but 4000 new bicycles will also be added to Tirana within a month, which will be a revolution to the functionality of our city,” Veliaj told local media.
