TIRANA, Oct. 20 – Albania’s top police official, Ahmet Prenci, said Friday that some 400 kilograms of drugs found by neighboring Italian police in Bari when they arrested three persons, one of them Albanian, had not come from Albania, as the media had reported.
Prenci denied that Albania had resumed its previous role as a country of origin of illegal drugs and arms trafficking across the Adriatic into Italy.
Prenci said the government continues to take a series of measures to strengthen its fight against all illegal trafficking.
“That fight will continue without compromise in the future and there will be no resurrection of trafficking from Albania,” he said.
Fighting illegal trafficking and better management of borders have been top issues Europe has asked Albania to improve during its efforts of integrating into the European Union.
