TIRANA, Oct. 23 – President Bamir Topi met Tuesday with a group of British lawmakers, members of the UK-Albania friendship association headed by John Grogan.
Topi thanked them for their contribution in ratifying the Albanian Stabilization and Association Agreement by their parliament last week.
“Great Britain is a friendly and partner country which is very important for Albania, not only in the bilateral ties but also in the multilateral ones,” he said.
Ahead of the two most important challenges for the country, integration efforts into NATO and the EU, Topi acknowledged that the local authorities and politicians had to work more in two directions: electoral and judicial reforms.
Grogan said that what they saw from their visit was another sign that the tiny Balkan country had more and more chances of getting a NATO membership invitation.
“Great Britain has supported Albania’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations,” he said.
Topi also did not forget to tell the British lawmakers that an independent Kosova would significantly increase stability in the region.
The group of British lawmakers met also with Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha to discuss the same topics.
