TIRANA, Sep. 7 – President Bamir Topi convened the Council of National Security on Friday, an advisory body, to discuss Kosova’s situation and its future.
Topi said that Albania was very much concerned about the recent developments of the status process for Kosova which is delaying “the prospect of the region’s full integration into NATO and the EU.”
Topi also said that the delayed process was threatening destabilization of the region.
The president said that the Albanian authorities have to be prepared to cope with a situation full of economic, political and social risks for Kosova and the region.
“Albania is convinced that the only way toward a fair and stable solution of this issue is the application of the Ahtisaari Package which Šoffers the widest guarantees for the Serb minority Šand the best model of the ethnic, religious, civic and European coexistence for a new state in the region,” he said.
Topi added that Kosova has become part of the international agenda.
Albania is categorically against any scenario for Kosova’s partition, according to the president.
Topi also appealed to the Kosovar society, political forces and leaders to show they are mature, very careful in following the situation “because Kosova is no longer isolated. Kosova is part of the interest of the most important international institutions, of the big democratic powers in the world that are interested in a calm region, which indisputably has its prospects in Europe and the Euro-Atlantic family.”
