TIRANA, April 15 – A complete reshuffle of the government’s mortgage office resulted in 155 officials being fired and 25 of them are being sued. Authorities have pledged to hold a complete reform and fight corruption at the mortgage office.
Some 105 persons were fired during 2007.
The office has also opened 25 penal cases, mainly in the Vlora and Durres districts.
It has also pledged to correct all the overlapping jurisdictions.
Property ownership has been, and remains, a main problem to be resolved in post-communist Albania. Property disputes make up more than half of all penal cases in Albanian courts.(Tirana Times Staff)
