Tourism facing unfair competition

TIRANA, June 4 – Tourism businesses in Durres, the country’s biggest tourism destination, have appealed to tax administration to do more on fighting unfair competition they face from unlicensed operators. In a seminar with the tax authorities in Durres, local accommodation units complained of the unfair competition they face from apartment owners who rent their houses and pay no taxes at all.
Shkelqim Fortuzi, the director of the Durres regional tax office warned the administration will impose severe penalties on unlicensed operators, informal workers.
Albania’s tax administration has been carrying out controls in the construction, transport sectors The General Tax Administration warns such inspections will continue during the whole year especially in the construction sector where coastal areas will be the target.
