TIRANA, Jan. 16 – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be Albania on Monday for a one-day official visit.
The packed schedule includes Prime Minister Edi Rama receiving President Erdogan at Tirana International Airport to travel together to the nearby town of Laç, where a new housing district for people affected by the November 2019 earthquake was built with Turkish aid funding.
More than 500 new apartments will soon be occupied thanks to 42 million euros donated by Turkish sources.
Rama and Erdogan are then scheduled to hold an official meeting in Tirana, in which seven bilateral agreements are expected to be signed.
President Erdogan will then stop at Tirana’s downtown Et’hem Bey Mosque, a historical site on Skanderbeg Square recently reconstructed with funding and expertise from Turkey.
A speech in the Parliament of Albania is expected to end the visit.
Authorities say that the visit will lead to the closure of some roads and a redirection of regular traffic, with the main Tirana-Durres highway being shut down from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
