Turns Eyes To Albania, Says The Crans Montana Forum

TIRANA, May 15 – The Crans Montana Forum was launched for the third consecutive year in Albania while the Albanian government is making strenuous efforts to attract more foreign direct investment in one of Europe’s poorest countries. The three-day forum was attended by numerous businessmen and international personalities, including government ministers and representative of international institutions. Albania’s economy, energy problems and its future and the security issues would dominate the three-day forum
The Albanian executive is trying hard in different angles to attract the world investors’ interest at a time when the country has just received the membership invitation from NATO and has also signed a pre-membership deal with the European Union.
The government has tried to attract investors also setting a flat tax regime and pledging to make Albania the easiest country as far as investing is concerned.
This year the government has launched or is in the process of international tenders for three of its strategic companies _ oil, insurance and power corporations.
The cabinet is preparing the proper documentation to launch six business parks in the country offering a variety of services and production and given by concession for only 1 euro to any interested investor that fulfills certain conditions. Tourism is another sphere of interest. The government has paid money for advertisement at an international television station and has also tried to arrange infrastructure in the tourist areas.
The Crans Montana Forum is organized in Albania following close collaboration with its person of origin _ Jean Paul Carteron, who is a close friend to Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Whatever reasons of its holding in Albania, one should acknowledge that it is a good point to improve the country’s image and likely to attract any investors’ interest in this country.
