TIRANA, Feb. 25 – Two Albanian artists who left the country in 1990 just as the 45-year communist regime was collapsing have come together in an exhibition in Tirana to confess their impressions of Albania’s in the past 25 years of transition to democracy.

Avni Delvina and Niko Dhales are showcasing this 25-year period in an exhibition called “25 years later” featuring paintings, graphs, drawings and pictures.

Avni Delvina who has been living in Italy for the past 25 years left Albania in July 1990 seeking asylum at the Italian embassy in Tirana, just as anti-communism protests kicked off.

“I went with my wife to Italy, a country where I really found the dreams and hopes and freedom I had always dreamt of,” said Avni Delvana who has had an active life as an artist in Bologna in the past two decades.

Niko Dhale, who is now based in France but travelled to Italy with Avni Delvina in 1990, has been working as a painter and graphic artist in Paris.

The exhibition will be open at the National Museum of History until March 1.
