This week, as Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, was bound for a three-day visit in Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovë, two more countries have recognized the Republic of Kosovë. From 58 countries last week, this week a total of 60 countries have officially recognized the newborn state. The independence was proclaimed on the 17.02.2008, and the Republic of Kosovë is today over one year old.
The two new states that formally recognized the Republic of Kosovë are the Comoro Islands (Union of the Comoros) and Bahrain (Kingdom of Bahrain). More than 100 states have not yet recognized the republic, amongst which Serbia and Russia.
Kosovë was lately made member of the International Monetary Fund, where over 90 countries voted in favor of its membership. That is more than 30 countries over those that have actually formally recognized the republic.
