TIRANA, July 13 – Bill Hughes, Head of SOCA, the UK’s lead agency in the fight against serious and organized crime, visited Albania on 12-14 July, to reinforce the UK’s ongoing support for Albania’s anti-organized crime efforts; also for Albania’s wider reform programme.
In a series of meetings, including with President Bamir Topi, Prime Minister Sali Berisha, Interior Minister Bujar Nishani, Prosecutor General Ina Rama and law enforcement agencies, Hughes stressed the importance of tackling crime, corruption and the wider rule of law reform urgently.
He also learned about some of the successful joint bilateral co-operation efforts to-date.
Tackling organized crime is a shared priority.
The British Government will release a report on the UK’s response to serious and organized crime shortly.
