Uniqa buys shares from Albanian Sigal

VIENNA, Dec. 18 – Austrian insurance group Uniqa Versicherungen AG said it purchased a 46 percent stake in Albanian insurance company Sigal, which holds a 28 percent market share in the domestic market and is also active in Macedonia and Kosovo.
Uniqa said it had been cooperating with Sigal since March 2007 and, at the start of this cooperation, had secured a contractually fixed option to purchase a majority in 2010, according to a statement.
The option for acquiring a majority in Sigal in 2010 remains open, according to Uniqa.
