TIRANA, Feb. 28 – The United Nations in Albania, Police Assistance Mission of the European Community to Albania (PAMECA), Albanian Police Directorate, World Bank, World Vision, ORA News TV, Eagle Mobile, Albanian Red Cross, SweRoad, the Automobile Club Albania, and the U.S. Embassy have partnered to create the Albanian Coalition for Road Safety to raise public awareness of road safety issues and advocate responsible driving.
The campaign includes television and radio spots, talk shows, public information materials, text messages, news features and educational activities in schools.
The campaign will target attitudes and driving habits that have led to a sharp increase in road injuries and the highest level of traffic-related accidents among eastern and central European countries.
The campaign has been extensively covered by print and broadcast media.
Albania has many road accidents due to its traffic signs, drivers not respecting the rules, use of alcohol and other issues. Figures show that road accidents ending in deaths are double those in western countries.
