TIRANA, April 1 – The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), provided $50,000 to meet the immediate needs of Albanians affected by the accidental munitions explosions at a military facility near Tirana.
The donation has been given to the Albanian Red Cross (ARC) through the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Disaster Relief Emergency Fund. USAID funds will be used by ARC to cover the costs of administration, transport, storage and distribution of family parcels to the areas affected by the explosion. This assistance will be implemented over a three month period.
This donation follows other assistance that the U.S. Government, through USAID, provided for emergency medical supplies to the military hospital’s trauma center within hours of the explosion.
