TIRANA, Sept. 23 – Czech documentary “Vaclav Havel – Living in Freedom” opened the tenth edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival in Tirana. The documentary maps the life of Vaclav Havel, the Czech Republic’s first president after the Velvet Revolution against communist rule, exclusively using period recordings, photographs and other historical materials.
The festival organized by the Marubi film school has extended its screening venues to two private universities and the Central State Film Archive.
Some 44 films from all around the world are being featured in this year’s tenth edition scheduled from Sept. 21 to 26.
Albania is participating in the festival with the “Hidden Documentary” an Albanian-British coproduction directed by Fabian Kati.
The movies focus on topics related to organized crime and corruption as one of the threatening violations of human rights and democratic institutions.
The rule of economic and financial oligarchies, the control of media power, the barbarous exploitation of natural resources and labor force, the capture of the justice system by criminal gangs are the main topics of the shortlisted movies.
