Veteran painter opens solo exhibition

TIRANA, Sept. 22 – One of Albania’s veteran painters, Aleksander Filipi, has opened a personal exhibition at the National Art Gallery in Tirana showcasing four decades of creativity.

The exhibition is featuring a collection of 21 oil paintings, depicting the urban landscape of Tirana, and also a number of compositions from everyday life in the Albanian capital. These works were realized over a period of five years, between 2011 and 2016.

This is the artist’s second personal exhibition at the National Gallery of Arts after 24 years.

Filipi, 64, belongs to the group of contemporary Albanian painters. Since his graduation from the Fine Arts Institute in Tirana in 1977, he has leaned towards compositional tableaus full of historical themes, Albanian legends and everyday life motifs.

”‹He is also one of the authors of Albania’s biggest mosaic, a 440m2 artwork on the faà§ade of Tirana’s History Museum.

Always figurative and expressive in his paintings, Filipi remains an important Albanian contemporary artist of the compositional tableau, focusing mainly on the human figure.

Filipi’s works have been displayed in various exhibitions and competitions in Albania and abroad, and are part of different private collections in Albania, Kosovo, Germany, Greece, Italy, France, Venezuela, Spain and United States. His “Declaration of the Independence” work is on display at the Albanian Parliament headquarters.

The exhibition will remain open until October 1.
