TIRANA, April 27 – An exhibition featuring two cycles of paintings by painter Kosta Koci has opened at the Zeta gallery in Tirana. The exhibition called “Waiting for…” show watercolour paintings created during 1988-1989 just before the collapse of the country’s communist system and new creations belonging to the 2010-2011 period.
The portraits painted by Kosta Koci are direct depictions of the Albanian life in a forbidden animation, and in-between the obvious and the stand-still it is concealed the dichotomy of repression and expression. Paintings are created within a historical context, but without the irony of the historical distance. In the changes of the palette of colours and the increased use of the impasto – from Ko詧s earlier paintings to the last ones – we find the reflection of the Albanian point of view on life, with a consistent and profound sense of humanity that is extended throughout his oeuvre, curators say.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until May 5, 2011.
