A theater play about the 20th anniversary of the fall of Berlin wall will be put on stage by German author and director Stefan Neugebauer. But instead of professional actors, students from “Sami Frash쳩” high school and Faculty of Foreign Languages, University of Tirana, will perform creating a grotesque collage of scenes.
The play is about a crazy communist living in a trash dumpster near the border between East and West Germany. Different kind of people and things happen on the German -German border, checkpoint control, communist slogans, American politicians, runaway attempts, police interrogations and tourists as well.
With its main subject, the construction of the Berlin wall, “Wall kids” presents a fanciful retrospect of the communist past of Germany.
The director Stefan Neugebauer wanted the play to be performed exclusively by young Albanian students. Parallels between the two countries past are notable in the play.
There are small dialogues in German, Albanian, English and French, but quite understandable even without a great deal of knowledge of the languages.
