TIRANA, September 27 – Kushtrim Bekteshi, a young ethnic Albanian director from Macedonia, will bring this weekend at the National Theatre in Tirana a drama by American playwright Edward Albee.
“Who is afraid of Virginia Wolf” will bring on stage actors Eva Alikaj, Viktor Zhusti, Helidon Fino and Eftiola Lacka in a play which is not about the British writer mentioned in the title but women’s issues. The drama which returns to the National Theatre will be staged from October 1 to 3 at the National Theatre at 19.00.
The drama is about a bitter aging couple who with the help of alcohol, use a young couple to fuel anguish and emotional pain towards each other.
“George and Martha are a middle aged married couple, whose charged relationship is defined by vitriolic verbal battles, which underlies what seems like an emotional dependence upon each other. This verbal abuse is fueled by an excessive consumption of alcohol. George being an associate History professor in a New Carthage university where Martha’s father is the President adds an extra dimension to their relationship.”
