“The Albanian art has developed to a stage it can express itself in an international language and can spread all over the world,” said the Italian curator

TIRANA, April 8 – After its inaugural opening in Italy’s Turin last February, the Temperando Biennial of works of art on paper has travelled to Tirana where it will be on display at the National History Museum for one month.

Eighteen Albanian artists and authors, most of whom based in Italy, are participating in the travelling exhibition as part of the sixth edition of the international biennial of works of art on paper which was inaugurated in Turin and will also travel to Tirana and Rome.

A novel written by Fatos Lubonja on cigarette paper during his imprisonment under communism, and several artworks by contemporary artists such as Ardian Isufi, Helidon Haliti and Alket Nallbani represent Albania in this exhibition which was initially displayed at the National University Library of Turin from Feb. 5 to March 8 before travelling to Tirana at the National Museum of History where it will remain open until May 10.

Anselmo Villato, the Italian curator of the exhibition, describes the travel of the Turin exhibition to Tirana as very important for the cultural exchanges between the two countries.

“The Albanian art has developed to a stage it can express itself in an international language and can spread all over the world,” said the Italian curator.

Promoted by the National Institute of Contemporary Art in Italy, this sixth edition of the Biennale is curated by Italy’s Anselmo Villata and Albania’s Alfred Milot Mirashi.

“This is an exhibition which in its recurrence can be called a historical monument – for those who can read – and opposes the attempts of limitations, levelling, generalizations and where each artist is unique as such, with all their values, an individual who with their personal contribution to society, actually recovers the role they deserve as promoter and supporter of culture and aesthetics,” organizers say.

This sixth edition of the Biennial is also featuring a compilation of the artists’ works in an album. In addition, this edition has been enriched by a historical section with works of great masters of the 20th century.
