TIRANA, May 29 – Young supporters of the country’s opposition Democratic Party and Socialist Movement for Integration gathered in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Monday asking for Minister of Interior Fatmir Xhafaj to resign.
To demonstrate the alleged ties of the government with criminal bands and drug trafficking, the youth protesting also brought a speedboat in front of the ministry, filled with black plastic bags resembling those usually used to transport cannabis.
Just like in Saturday’s opposition rally demanding the resignation of the Rama government, the youth was holding signs reading “Resign” for Xhafaj, and “Rama go.”
Opposition lawmakers also joined the youth’s protest, after leaving their respective parliamentary commissions, where they reportedly also asked for Xhafaj’s resignation.
In this context, the ministry of interior was surrounded once more by policemen, who were mainly guarding the institution’s entrance for the minister’s entrance.
