PESHKOPI, Oct. 26 – Albania’s High Council of Justice, that is headed by President Bamir Topi, dismissed two judges of corruption and abuse of power.
It has said it is to consider bad work for some 12 of them.
“This is one of the most important moments for our justice system, and all state institutions need to cooperate to step up their standards,” said Topi.
A study backed by the United States in March found that corruption in Albania has worsened over the past year. The study was conducted by the Institute for Development and Research Alternatives, IDRA, funded by the US Agency for International Development.
The survey tracks both the perception and experience of corruption amongst ordinary citizens.
According to the survey, 92 per cent of Albanians say corruption is widespread among public officials, eight points worse than a year ago.
