Italian prosecutor suspended for suspected abuse of post, bird smuggling

BARI, Dec. 4 – Martino Micoli, 51, an Italian police agent in the city of Bari, was suspended for two months from his duties, accused of corruption after receiving a bribe of 2,000 euros to help the entry into of Italy two quintals of protected birds, hunted in Albania by Italian citizens, according to Italian media. The birds were destined for Brescia. Police are investigating 14 persons involved in organizing the shipment of animals hunted in eastern European countries, especially in Albania in the lagoons of Karavasta, in Durres and in Vlora, into Italy.
