Berisha sets government priorities for 2007

TIRANA, Jan. 22 – Fighting corruption and increasing transparency of public funding, privatization and facilitation of service procedures, fight against organized crime, deep reform in judiciary, property reform, fight against informality in economy, Albania in the internet age project, IDs for citizens, big infrastructure road projects and energy were the main areas where the government would concentrate its efforts this year, according to Prime Minister Sali Berisha. Those were the main issues mentioned by the premier at the start of the parliament’s legislative session this year. Anti-corruption is our absolute priority despite its cost, he said. Fight with zero tolerance against organized crime remains another one. “This will be a year of big work. Road infrastructure projects that are to start are the biggest in the whole 500 last years together,” he said. He mentioned the Rreshen-Kalimash road segment that will have among the longest tunnels in the Balkans. Durre-Morine road segment has been contracted for all the parts, he said, mentioning other segments in the southeast and northwest areas.
