TIRANA – The head of Albania’s election commission said that political in-fighting had prevented preparations for local elections on January 20.
“I am ringing the alarm bell,” commission head Clirim Gjata told Albanian public television station TVSH, saying no candidates had been registered and no lower-level electoral authorities were in place.
“We cannot hold elections on Jan. 20 under these conditions,” he said. “Everything remains in the hands of politics, parliament and the president to reach a solution.”
