Albania hails Slovenia’s EU presidency

TIRANA, Jan. 6 – Albania hailed Slovenia’s accepting the presidency of the European Union, which is both the first time the block is being led by a former communist country as well as by one of the ten new countries accepted into the EU after the fall of communism.
Prime Minister Sali Berisha sent a letter mentioning Albania’s efforts of integration into the EU and also the Kosova issue.
“The Foreign Ministry expresses its conviction that the status of Kosovo and further advancing relations in the region of Southeastern Europe with the European Union will be at the center of EU foreign policy during the Slovenian presidency,” said a statement. Main opposition Socialist Party chairman Edi Rama also hailed Slovenia, again referring to the solution of the Kosova issue as a priority in its foreign policy.
