TIRANA, June 5 – Following the recent spark of a debate on Prime Minister Sali Berisha’s offer to other countries and international companies to build a nuclear power reactor in Albania, there comes a reaction from neighboring Italy. It was precisely Italy that urged Berisha make that statement. Italy had banned building nuclear reactors following a referendum in 1987 and had hinted they could do that in Albania. Italian Economic Development Vice Secretary Adolfo Urso said in an interview to the Corriere della Sera newspaper that Italy should go ahead with the idea of building a nuclear reactor. But that would be better to be built in Italy, which is safer, rather than in Slovenia or Albania. “Here we can build it more safely.” (Tirana Times Staff)
Italy believes better build nuclear reactors at home, than Albania
