TIRANA, July 15 – NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer hoped that all ratification procedures for Albania would be concluded in time for the next year’s summit when Albania could become a full NATO member.
Last week, Albania and Croatia signed a set of protocols with NATO which needs to be ratified by all its member countries by spring next year when the summit will be held in Strasbourg.
Scheffer also repeated that the country should continue with reforms if it aims to become a NATO member.
He said that the March 15 blast at the ammunition disposal factory in Gerdec would not have any direct negative impact on the decision to make Albania a NATO member. NATO was ready to assist with the disposal process, he added.
