TIRANA, July 28 – The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe signed an agreement with the Albanian Defense Ministry on the disposal of some 30 tons of toxic fuel used by Albania’s outdated melanzhi rockets.
The disposal will be made by the Swedish Sakab AB company in six months.
Albania had eliminated, by 2001, some 20 tons of dangerous chemicals, funded by the Swiss government and, in 2007, another 17 tons of chemicals funded by the United States government, thus becoming the first country in the world to be rid of all dangerous chemicals.
The ministry also said they are to send some 1.5 tons of a dangerous chemicals to be disposed in Britain.
Albania has said that it wants international aid to further destroy 98,000 tons of excess ammunition still remaining in the country. (Tirana Times Staff)
