TIRANA, Aug 11 – Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha strongly denied there was any ‘parallelism’ between Kosovo and Georgia, saying the recent conflict was ‘purely a tendency to create (another former) Soviet Union.’
“The Albanian government expresses full and total support for Georgia’s integrity and sovereignty,” said Berisha at a news conference upon arriving in Albania from Beijing.
“That is clearly an effort toward the creation of the Soviet Union. This is an expression of the Russian expansionism towards a small country. Russia has sent its military forces to a free, democratic country and I, naturally, wish that this conflict be resolved soon. I also appeal to the international community for a strong reaction to stop such attacks against a free country, to guarantee the sovereignty and integrity of this democratic country.” “Minorities cannot be exploited for military interventions because there are minorities everywhere and if minorities are used, if military force is used, then the international order is in a great danger.” (Tirana Times Staff)
