TIRANA, Aug 26 – Prime Minister of Island Geir H. Haarde made a visit to Tirana to sign two agreements and also talk on further strengthening the relations between the two countries, in a first visit that was considered as historic.
Albania and Island signed a deal on the reacceptance of the unauthorized persons and also one for visa facilitation regime.
The visiting Island’s premier pledged they would rectify the protocol for Albania’s entrance into NATO within this year. Albania signed that protocol in July and that is expected to be ratified by all NATO member countries before Albania may be accepted as a full member, likely next year. Before that Albania together with Croatia got the membership invitation to the alliance.
Island offered its assistance to Albania in tourism, energy, health and pharmacy.
Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha also thanked Island for recognizing Kosova as an independent country. (Tirana Times Staff)
