TIRANA, Aug 25 – The Greek media reported that there has been an increase in Greek tourists entering neighboring Albania due to the lower hotel and food prices there. The Greek newspaper, Ta Nea, reports that Greek tourists are flocking to the unspoiled beaches in Albania and are enjoying lower prices than in Greece.
Greek tourists also discover that many Albanians speak or understand their language in southwestern Albania.
Some hotel managers also report that up to one-third of their clients this summer are from Greece.
The same situation occurred this summer with Macedonian tourists. However, besides lower prices, Macedonians found they could not reach Greece or Bulgaria due to a lack of entrance visas to these European Union member countries.
There are no official figures, but it is believed that up to one million Albanians work and live in Greece with, or without, proper documents. (Tirana Times Staff)
