TIRANA, Sep 2 – Fiqiri Ismaili, mayor of Vora, the town that includes Gerdec, severely affected by the March 15 blast that killed 26, injured 300 persons and damaged or destroyed some 5,500 houses and other structures.
Ismaili was questioned by prosecutors after many complaints from residents in the area regarding how damages were calculated.
Poor people in the area want compensation, not only for their homes but also for their possessions which were destroyed by the blast. Residents have remained unsatisfied by compensation provided by commissions set up by the Vora town hall.
