“Republic of Kosovo, this new political, economic, and social reality fully deserves to become a member of the United Nations as soon as possible,” said the President of Albania Bamir Topi, during his speech at the 63rd session of the General Assembly at the United Nations.
President Topi asked all members who were attending the General Assembly session “to accept the reality of this irreversible development by recognizing and supporting without hesitation the Republic of Kosovo.”
Speaking of Serbia and Russia, and their allies who are working on attempting to stop further recognitions of Kosovo independence, Albanian President warned that every political, economic, military and diplomatic attempt against consolidation of the Kosovo state will be a failed and desperate attempt and against the integration processes towards European Union and NATO.
Albania President said that formal recognition of Kosovo as independent and sovereign is foremost in the interest of Kosovo, but also Albania, Serbia and all other close and far neighbors in Europe and the Mediterranean region.
He added that independence of Kosovo in the end frees this part of Europe from the war nightmares, inter ethnic conflicts, ethnic cleansing and genocide.
“Independence of Kosovo fulfills the determination for freedom of a nation and liberation from political, colonial occupation and historical injustice,” said President Topi.
Topi pledged his country’s dedication to assist the Republic of Kosovo in building a true democratic and multiethnic society.
In the meantime, Albania Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha met with his Russian counterpart Lavrov, where they discussed several issues, Kosovo among them.
Basha emphasized that developments in Kosovo demonstrate that declaration of independence helped peace and democracy in the region. He underlined the “wisdom and moderation” that characterized the government of the Republic of Kosovo in facing the challenges after the declaration of independence and said that “the state of Kosovo is the peace and stability factor in the southeastern Europe.”
Stressing the unique nature of Kosovo, Minister Basha, rejected any parallelisms of Kosovo and its independence process with other regions in the world, informs the Press Office of Albania Foreign Ministry.
