TIRANA, Sep 30 – A non-governmental organization brought to Albania a Dutch expert to evaluate the situation in the Gerdec area after the March 15 explosion at the ammunition disposal factory which killed 26 persons and injured 300 others.
The Mjaft! NGO said they brought the Dutch environmental expert after request from the families living in the area.
While the local residents have built or are in the process to renew their damaged houses there have been continuous calls, especially from the U.S. ambassador, not to live in that area due to dangers from the blast.
At the same time the Albanian authorities have insisted that besides the crater area that has been blocked it is not dangerous to live in the surrounding area.
