Judiciary against government draft laws

TIRANA, Oct 27 – Representatives of all legal institutions in the country expressed themselves against seven draft laws prepared by the Justice Ministry and the government saying they violated their independence.
In a meeting representatives of the prosecutors, judges, attorneys and also of the European assistance mission Euralius urged the government to reconsider these draft laws.
On the other side, the main opposition Socialist party declared that it would stop collaborating with the governing Democratic Party in the judicial reform.
The parliament has a fundamental role to pass the draft laws with a three-fifth, or 84 votes.
International community has clearly expressed its concern recently on the government’s efforts to concentrate power in its hands.
The US ambassador and the next day the European Union warned the government and the ruling party to keep hands away from the judiciary and let them work independently.
