TIRANA, Nov 17 – Albanians in Albania proper, Kosova and in Macedonia continue to be the most pro-American minded population in the Balkans and, why not, probably worldwide.
It remains to be seen if the new U.S. administration of President-elect Barack Obama will continue to keep a very close eye on the Balkans and not look to Europe to be a more active guiding force there.
In the past last two decades the United States has invested political, financial, and military resources in the Balkans, much more than the European Union has, until the region stopped producing conflicts and instability.
All leaders hailed Obama’s election at the post. They hope that the policy of U.S. leadership that ensured not only the independence of Kosova, but also an invitation to NATO membership for Albania, will continue.
They also have much hope at Obama’s vice, Joe Biden, who has been before a very strong supporter to the Albanian issue while heading the foreign policy committee.
