TIRANA, March 18 – Three political parties, the Christian Democrats, Democratic Union and the National Development Movement, announced the creation of the “Freedom Pole,” a new right-wing political grouping to run in the June 28 parliamentary elections.
They said other parties, interest groups, associations, and personalities of public life could find their political home at the “Freedom Pole.”
“The creation of this political coalition comes at a very important moment for Albania and its citizens, in a moment when the old political forces that have governed Albania these eighteen years, are older than ever and when we all together want to depart from this tedious cycle of transition, from politics and old politicians who are responsible for all political, economic, social and cultural failures during all these years,” said their statement.
The new grouping claims that the governing Democratic Party and the main opposition Socialist Party that have governed the post-communist country have failed to build the legal state, independent institutions, a professional, capable and non-political state administration. They also said they have failed to resolve the issue of ownership, integration and damages of the formerly politically persecuted, in the fight against organized crime and corruption, in the development of a free market economy that provides prosperity and sustainable life, as well as in many other vital sectors such as education, health, employment, poverty, etc.
the new coalition considers itself a new political moment urging all the “free citizens, young people and intellectuals, students, all those who want to change Albania, to join and to lead the nation towards the future.”
