TIRANA, Sep 8 – Outgoing Health Minister Anila Godo said Tuesday that the Albanian government had received assurances from Germany and the European Union of securing some 900,000 swine flu vaccines.
Speaking in Durres after a meeting with top health officials on that subject, Godo, who is not going to be in the new cabinet, said that, “Germany has put us on their list for 600,000 vaccines, while the director of infectious diseases of the European Commission has promised another 300,000.”
The World Health Organization, WHO, had warned Albania it should secure the swine flu vaccine on its own, likely coordinating efforts with the neighboring countries.
Albania has had 30 cases of H1N1 positive viral infection but no death.
One Albanian died in neighboring Greece where he resided as an immigrant.
