PODGORICA, Montenegro, Sep 22 – President Bamir Topi held a three-day visit to neighboring Montenegro where he was invited by his counterpart Filip Vujanovic. Topi met with all the other top officials there, including political leaders of the ethnic Albanian community in Montenegro.
The NATO accession of all Western Balkan countries is crucial since it is the only secure option for long-term stability, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and Albanian President Bamir Topi said when they met last weekend.
Topi’s visit to Montenegro was the first by an Albanian head of state since Montenegro declared its independence in May 2006.
According to Djukanovic, Topi’s visit will be a catalyst to better bilateral relations. Djukanovic stressed that the two countries have very good co-operation in the fields of defense and interior affairs, as well as joint projects in infrastructure, energy, and environmental protection
Topi and his interlocutors stressed the need that both countries need to step up their cooperation, not forgetting to mention the excellent relations existing between the two countries.
Topi also stressed that the ethnic Albanian minority in Montenegro is a linking bridge of friendship between the two countries.
