LONDON, Britain, Oct 26 – A man wanted by Interpol for a 1996 murder in Albania was arrested by police in Tyneside.
Sokol Sinani, 37, was held earlier this month at a house in a cul-de-sac in Ryton, Gateshead, by officers from the Metropolitan Police.
His details had been circulated throughout Europe, according to the Interpol website, for “crimes against life and health, crimes involving the use of weapons/explosives.”
He appeared before Westminster magistrates on October 14 and was remanded in custody pending an extradition hearing.
It is understood the Albanian government issued a warrant for his arrest in 1996.
The Interpol website lists his alleged offences as crimes against life and health, involving the use of weapons.
