Meta at the NATO ministerial in Brussels

TIRANA, Dec 7 – Foreign Minister Ilir Meta took part last week in the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in Brussels discussing the club’s relations with Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro.
NATO Foreign Ministers decided to invite Montenegro to join the Membership Action Plan (MAP) and encouraged Bosnia-Herzegovina to deepen reforms aimed at becoming part of MAP, once they have met the appropriate criteria.
Albania supports the open door policy for further NATO accession according to a statement of the Albanian foreign ministry.
The Ministers of ISAF contributing countries discussed key issues and priorities of the strategy for Afghanistan and, in particular, on the protection of Afghan citizens, building Afghan security capacities, facilitating good – governance and on the country’s development.
The Ministers made a joint statement expressing their willingness to work together on all matters concerning the mission and full-fledged support for ISAF principle, in view of the re-integration and reconciliation processes in Afghanistan.
The ministry also said that Tirana supports the strategy launched by U.S. President Barack Obama, designed to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan by ensuring the success of the international security mission.
Albania added its participation with 85 additional troops, help to build and rehabilitate schools, and also offer 100 scholarships for Afghan youngsters to study in the tiny Balkan country.
