TIRANA, Dec 5 – The country’s opposition asked for the resignation of the heads of the public radio and television station accusing them of political preferential reference in the institution’s work.
The opposition asked Director General Petrit Beci, TV information head Artur Kopani and head of the Leading Council Agron Tufa to resign from their posts and also called on the population not to pay the annual tax on this public institution which has turned into a totally politically-affiliated one to the governing Democratic Party of Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
The G99 political party held a protest in front of the institution noting all the violations of the law committed by the above-mentioned officials.
The opposition is in a long process of protest after the June 28 parliamentary vote which it has not recognized. It is asking now to topple the government which does not accept opening a number of ballot boxes to be recounted. The government said that would break the laws.
The opposition has continuously accused the RTSH of openly affiliating with the governing Democrats though it is a public institution linked with the parliament.
Reports from international institutions have also criticized the RTSH for showing almost open affiliation to the governing party. That has been a constant charge against the RTSH during Albania’s post-communist period.
