TIRANA, Jan. 5 – Neighboring Greece fears that Albania continues to be the main source of drugs into its borders.
Albania continues to be the main source of drugs to Greece, and Turkey is the country from which are imported significant quantities of heroin, the Greek newspaper Vima reported.
This is documented in the annual report of the coordinating body to combat drugs in 2008.
In particular, 10.22% of the total quantity of heroin seized in Greece, 8.7% of the cocaine and 69.32% of crude cannabis originated in Albania. About 41.51% of seized heroin was brought to Greece via Turkey.
The report says heroin is imported directly from Turkey, or first passes through Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania and then to Greece.
Greek criminal organizations work closely with suppliers in Turkey, Albania and Bulgaria, the report notes further.
