Police arrest life imprisoned person

SARANDA, Jan. 11 – Police arrested 1 70-year old man who has escaped prison after he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Latif Zholi, 70, was arrested last weekend at the southernmost city of Saranda.
Zholi had been sentenced in 1995 to life imprisonment for a murder he had committed in 1994. he murdered a 25 year old man, his relative, following disputes on land ownership.
During the 1997 almost anarchy Zholi had left the prison and hid in Italy. He had returned back home only some time ago and was hid at his son’s apartment in Saranda.

Albania ranks 65th in quality of life index

TIRANA, Jan. 11 – Albania ranks 65th among 194 countries in a 2010 quality of life index, rising from 66th place a year earlier.
The index compiled by the International Living magazine assesses cost of living, culture and leisure, the economy, the environment, freedom, safety and risk, health, infrastructure and climate.
Albania lies below Croatia (37), Bulgaria (44), Romania (53), Moldova (55) and FYR Macedonia (59), and above Bosnia and Herzegovina (66) and Turkey (72).

Extradition from Italy

TIRANA, Jan. 11 – Last week Interpol Tirana extradited from Rome, Italy Donald Andrea Qose, 22, born in Berat, to serve his imprisonment on drug trafficking.
In October 2007 Qose was sentenced to 3.4 years imprisonment from the Berat district court for producing and selling drugs.
Earlier that year he was found with 2.2. kilograms of cannabis sativa.

Fighting drug traffic

GJIROKASTRA, Jan. 10 – Police in Gjirokastra seized 650kg of marijuana last week in the village of Lazarat, just outside Gjirokastra.
Police units moved in after they had learnt that the delivery to the coastal southernmost city of Saranda would take place early that morning.
The suspects dumped the load and managed to escape in nearby villages amid bad weather conditions.

Police arrest drug traffickers

TIRANA, Jan. 12 – Tirana police continued their focus on fighting drug traffic in the capital.
Earlier this week they arrested Fjoralb Agron Gjeloshi, 19, while he was transporting more than one kilogram of cannabis sativa and also false docuemnts.
In another operation they arrested Endrit Enver Demaj , 23, and Gentian Esat Dega, 26, after finding more than one kilogram of cannabis sativa and also a smaller amount of cocaine in the car they were driving.
Also, Ardit Nikoll Ulndreaj, 19, was arrested after police found 666 grams of marijuana at his apartment.

Extradition from Italy

In another case, Gjoleka Zylyftar Misiraj, 48, was extradited from Italy to serve his 19 year jail term.
In 2007 Misiraj was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment for murder.
Together with three other persons he shot dead Kastriot Shehu for revenge.
