European integration tops government’s priorities

TIRANA, Jan. 10 – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta received Spanish Ambassador Manuel Montobio and Head of EU Delegation in Albania, Ambassador Helmuth Lohan.
The meeting was focused on the priorities of the EU Spanish Presidency during the first 6 months of 2010.
Ambassadors Lohan and Montobio informed Meta on the new structural changes of European Union after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty and on establishing channels of communication during the transition period of the Spanish Presidency.
Meta assured the ambassadors for an open, close and constructive cooperation of the Albanian Government in the coming months, by pointing out that the Government will continue to follow with priority the three immediate challenges of integration which are the timely fulfillment of EC questionnaire, the conclusion of the last stages of the visa liberalization process and the implementation of the recommendations of the last EU Progress Report .
Both ambassadors assured Meta for the Union’s full support in achieving these major goals for Albania.
