TIRANA, March 4 – Interior Ministers of the western Balkan countries convened Thursday in Albanian capital to discuss the management of the borders in the region, along its integration steps toward NATO and the European Union.
The three-day 7th Inter-Ministerial Conference on Cooperation of the Border Security in Southeastern Europe was launched in Tirana under the auspices of the Spanish European Union Presidency with the presence of interior ministers from the region and also senior officials from the European Union, and other international institutions like the IOM, OSCE.
In a surprising move, the Serbian Inbterior Minister Ivica Dacic was also present at the meeting despite the presence of Kosovar counterpart Zenun Pajaziti.
Was that a change of policy from Belgrade? Should Albania be proud of mediating such a reconciliation?
Better wait and see to get the proper reacation.
Participants discussed on the border management during last year, including joint projects of different countries.
They also discuss on the progress in the border security and the strategy they are to apply in the next two years. The regional development, the priority goals and the annual plan for the western Balkan countries were other topics of discussion.
The law-enforcement officials were also to discuss on strengthening cooperation in the future and were to sign an agreement at the end of the conference.
